Most of the students after 10th or +2 standard opt for ITI courses as a last resort for pursuing their studies as they are not able to get admission in other courses. They feel themselves inferior and often reluctant to disclose to others that they are ITI students. This is due to the fact that they really do not understand the importance of ITI courses.
Today among the various technical courses, job opportunity for a National Trade Certificate (ITI) holder is very bright. The time, money and efforts required to be spent for attaining this Certificate is also very less compared to any other Professional courses. The salary and other benefits at the entry level of an ITI Certificate holder may not be attractive, but getting into employment in their teenage is not a silly thing.
Within the next 4-5 years time he will become an expert and competent technician in his trade and there will be lot of Reputed organizations to offer him job with attractive salary and other benefits at that time. Further, there is ample opportunity for him to attending morning/evening class to pursue his studies with his own earnings for adding higher qualification. This should be the personal goal setting of an ITI student. Parents should also understand this and give their wards the required moral support and boosting for achieving this goal.
Making the students and parents aware of these facts is the responsibility of the Principal and Teachers and they should be given all options to select the Trade according to the taste of the students. Also they should be given the opportunity to see whether the Institution they selected is equipped with all facilities like qualified and experienced teachers, well equipped Practical halls, comfortable Theory classes, peaceful campus, etc.
Parents and students should be communicated regarding Government’s approval to the Institute for conduction the opted course. All these aspects are to be discussed with the parents and students at Principal’s initiative to make them feel comfortable at the very first point itself. This is what we follow in our Institute for the past 24 years.
The past 24 years experience as Managing Director of VIKRAM SARABHAI ITI, has given me the strong feeling that success of any Educational Institution totally depends on the quality of its Principal. He should be bold, sincere, dedicated and hard working and should not compromise on the standard of education and discipline due to any amount of pressure from within the Establishment or outside.
The lenient attitude of the Govt. on the activities of Private I T I s, few years back, has changed drastically and documentation and formalities have gone up many fold and the responsibilities of the Principals have also gone up accordingly. Under the circumstances the Principals of I T Is should be more vigilant and active and should accept the reality that all these developments are for the betterment of students only.
Most of the Principals of Private I T Is themselves are the owners and they are running these Institutions as self-employment endeavor and of course the present developments have no positive impact, as far as on the beneficial aspect of this business is concerned. Therefore, this being a noble activity, certain amount of compromise is required to be made by them on monetary returns.
Taking into account the potential of the students at the entry level in Private I T Is, the task and efforts of the Principals in molding the students here is much more than that of any other educational Institution.
Therefore a Principal of a Private ITI can feel more proud than anybody else.
Thanking You
Principal
